Glow Getter

Updated: Nov 19, 2020

Up until now we have covered many of the practises which you should incorporate into your routine to reveal your healthiest, most glowing version of your skin. For those of you who are glow getters, our desire to look like we're dripping in candlelight can be additionally supplemented beyond our skincare and the foods we consume. Queue - a hybrid of new products which are designed as a flawless filter for your face. Layered on top of your moisturiser, this item is not a foundation or a tinted moisturiser. It is simply a glow booster, which in summer, and during these times where we are expected to wear a mask, can be incredibly useful and increase your confidence while going bare faced. Keep reading to learn more about the benefits of going foundation-free and to learn which glow boosting products made it to our #SkinFood favourites.

Benefits of Swapping Your Foundation for a Glow Booster

Reduce "Maskne" and Acne

Due to the requirement to wear a mask daily, our noses and mouths are effectively trapped behind fabric, leading to a build up of moistness in the lower half of our faces. This warm environment creates a perfect formula for acne. Sweat, oil and makeup build up under the mask leading to the skin being suffocated and susceptible to producing breakouts as sebum and makeup become lodged in our pores. By using a glow booster, and simply spot correcting with concealer, you allow your skin to breathe, lowering the risk of developing unnecessary breakouts.

Reduced Pore Size

It is common to think that foundation improves the appearance of our skin. However, with each wear, makeup particles accumulate within our pores beneath the surface. Along with sweat, oil and air pollutants, which our skin is exposed to everyday, a build up occurs causing pores to become clogged and appear enlarged over time. “Taking a break from makeup can help the skin repair itself. Removing physical blockages from the surface of the skin can help clear pores.” says Dr. Joshua Zeichner, MD, Director of Cosmetic and Clinical Research at Mount Sinai Hospital. Going makeup free, as well as cleansing and toning your face properly, can minimise the debris inside your pores, making them appear smaller overtime. This in turn gives your complexion a more refined and smooth finish.

Skin Appears More Youthful

Going foundation-free means your skin will look more youthful over time. In the words of Dr. Michele Green, MD, cosmetic dermatologist, “There’s more oxygen that’ll be delivered to your face; your skin will have more time to repair itself and regenerate its elastin and collagen." An added bonus is that your makeup will not sink into any fine lines throughout the day, as it would normally, emphasising existing crevices.

By Terry - Brightening CC Serum

Targeted for those that want to go bare faced but still appear radiant, By Terry's CC serum is a smash hit. It is very much a luxury product, hitting the higher end of the price spectrum but it delivers a flawless natural finish that will have you feeling confident and ready to ditch your foundation. I wouldn't necessarily call it a colour corrector as it has little to no coverage. But what it does do is inject your face with a gorgeous glow thanks to its light reflective pearl pigments.

Charlotte Tilbury - Hollywood Flawless Filter

Obsessed with all things that shimmer and glimmer, Charlotte Tilbury has delivered a product which does what it says on the label: it gives your face a filter. What is wonderful about this glow booster is that the shimmer is incredibly refined meaning that it can be applied as a standalone product. Very little is needed to cover your whole face. Therefore, it should last for a long time making it value for money at good quality.

Kiko - Hydra Pro Glow

Kiko does particularly good highlighters and glow products and their Hydra Pro Glow is no exception. Think of this lotion as a final step instead of your foundation (we don't recommend substituting this in lieu of proper skincare). Containing ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, it injects the skin with a hit of hydration all the while delivering a subtle sheen. Hydra Pro Glow is the most cost effective of our #SkinFood favourites.
