Green Glow Smoothie

In the last few years, green juices and smoothies have established themselves as one of the pillars to healthy, clear and glowing skin. The only thing that stops many people from drinking them is the taste! Read below to learn more about the benefits of introducing our Green Glow smoothie into your daily or weekly routine and to see our recipe that makes drinking your greens easier.

Benefits of Key Ingredients

Celery

In the last year celery juice has become all the rage and we can understand why. This vegetable contains up to 94% water meaning it helps to increase hydration levels in the skin significantly. Celery also contains Vitamin K which maintains healthy blood flow and circulation. Additionally, it is a good source of Vitamins A and C which are powerful antioxidants for the skin, helping to reverse cell damage and to keep our complexions bright and luminous.

Spinach

Spinach and all dark leafy greens contain a substance called chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is a phytonutrient which is chemically similar to haemoglobin that serves the essential function of carrying oxygen to our cells. Incorporating good amounts of leafy greens into our diet is essential to alkalise, detoxify and oxygenate our blood.

Cucumber

Much like celery, cucumbers also have a high water content. As a result they help to cleanse waste and unwanted toxins from our system. Moreover, cucumbers notably contain high levels of silica, a key beauty mineral that helps to promote healthy cells and connective tissue.

Avocado

Avocados are high in essential fatty acids which assist in keeping our complexions soft and supple. They also contain high levels of lauric acid which carry anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties that can help fight against skin conditions such as acne.

Banana

Bananas are rich in potassium, a vital mineral and electrolyte which helps our bodies to maintain a healthy heart rate and proper water balance. Due to high levels of potassium, bananas can also assist in fuelling brain power. They are the ideal snack post work-out or for when study or concentration are required. Additionally, bananas also contain magnesium, a key mineral that helps to regulate our blood sugar levels and optimise key muscle and nerve functions.

Now that we've covered the benefits, let's move onto our recipe!

Ingredients

1 handful of spinach

1 chopped celery stalk

2 inches of chopped cucumber

1/2 frozen banana (use a whole frozen banana if you have a sweet tooth)

1/2 avocado

1 1/2 cups of almond milk (this can be substituted with water or any other non-dairy milk)

Optional smoothie boosters

1 tablespoon of green superfood powder

Directions

Take all of your ingredients and mix them thoroughly in your blender for approximately 1 minute. Make sure that you consume your smoothie within 20 minutes of blending otherwise the consistency will change and your ingredients will oxidise. This recipe serves approximately 2 tall glasses.
